This is to announce the schedule of the OYAMA Hiking Tour in April, 2023.
Tour date: 22nd of April, 2023
Possible number of guests per tour: 5 – 10 guests
Minimum number of guests to run tour: 5 guests
Participation Fee : 1,000yen (as the share of the travel expenses of KSGG guides and the insurance including you.)
※Other expenses (such as your lunch and the travel fee) are not included.

Mt. Oyama
Mt. Oyama hiking tour is to visit some spots along the approach to Oyama including the waterfalls before climbing up to Afuri Shrine Shimosya via Oyama-dera Temple.(Tour time: 5 to 6 hours )
Let’s climb up the stairway to Afuri Shrine Shimosya. From there you can see a splendid view awarded 2 stars in Michelin Guide. Surrounded with the sounds of streams and waterfalls, hikers or visitors can enjoy the breezes from the trees, and feel the fresh air of Mt Oyama.
This hiking route is a part of pilgrims’ way leading to Afuri shrine and Oyama-dera Temple on which many people pilgrimaged since ancient times.

08:50 Registration starts at Isehara railway station of Odakyu Odawara Line
09:10 Complete registration of all participants
09:20 Departure / Take bus to Oyama station and tour starts
09:50 Start Climbing up Oyama via Koma Sando, Oyama cable car station, and Onnazaka
11:20 Oyama-dera Temple
11:50 Afuri Shrine Shimosha
Lunch
13:20 Miharashidai lookout
14:20 Return to Afuri Shrine Shimosha and start climbing down Onnazaka
14:50 arrive Oyama cable car station (the tour ends)
(Please note that climbing from Afuri Shrine Shimosha to the summit of Mt. Oyama is not included in this tour.)
Please note that the tour may be canceled in advance if a good chance (such as 40% or more) of rain or any bad weather is anticipated during the day of the tour.
Because KSGG organizes the tour on volunteer basis, neither KSGG nor any of KSGG staff are responsible for any injuries, or theft and/or damage to possessions that may occur during the services. KSGG strongly recommends that you take out and hold an appropriate level of travel insurance that provides coverage for you while you are undertaking the tour.

ZAZEN (Sitting Meditation) session will be held at Kenchoji Temple for foreigners.
Kanagawa Systematized Goodwill Guide Club (KSGG) will voluntarily escort to the temple and guide them around the temple ground.
Kenchoji is the first-ranked of Zen temple, and is the oldest Zen training monastery.
Time
12:30 Meet at JR Kita-kamakura station .
13:00 Arrive at Kenchoji Temple.
13:30 ZAZEN starts(3sessions,15~20mins for each)
15:10 Q&A session.
16:00 Walk around the temple grounds led by KSGG members.
17:00 Depart at JR Kita-kamakura station.

Fee for ZAZEN session 1,000yen/person
We can escort up to 10 participants.
KSGG will not be liable for any accidents.

Main attractions during the tour:
* We will guide you on Shonan Star Mall Street, where you can see a lot of giant bamboo decorations like a picture on the
right. This street extends about 400 meters, which has a lot of shops and stalls on both sides.
You can visit shops during the tour if you wish.
* You can enjoy major festival attractions below at Mitsukedai Hiroba (MH),
the Tanabata Stage (TS) and Beniyacho Machikado Hiroba (BMH).
e.g. 1. Traditional performances by Hiratsuka’s friendship cities, Hanamaki,
Iwate, Takayama, Gifu and Izu, Shizuoka [at TS, from 10:00 am to 12 noon]
2. Starlight Dancing by many local young girls [at TS, from 12:15 to1:00 pm]
3. Huge Dinosaur Robot exhibition [at MH, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm]
4. Tanabata wedding ceremony [at BMH, 10:40 am-]
* Lunch: You can take lunch at a restaurant/diner or buy a lunch box at a shop/stall on the street or at Mitsukedai Hiroba.
A Halāl restaurant is available near the station, so feel free to ask your guide. He/she will guide you to the restaurant.
Special Hands-on Workshop at the International Culture Exchange Salon (ICES)
[from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm]
Visit ICES at Hachimanyama no Yokan.
This building was designed by a British architect and built by Japanese
carpenters in 1908.
This is only one old European style building remaining in the city.
You can enjoy Japanese culture like calligraphy (shuji)–making your own greeting
card with a fudepen–,paper folding (origami), and others.
You can take your artwork to your home.
