Of the two couples, the husbands are good friends and their wives met each other for the first time on this trip. I explained the historical background of Japan and Yokohama at the time of Yokohama Port opening at Yokohama Park. We then walked from Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall (Jack Tower) to King(Kanagawa Prefectural Office) and Queen(Yokohama Customs).*1 When I introduced the spots by their nick name such as Jack and King, Paul guessed the nick name of the next spot to visit and his guess was not right. Having heard the correct name “Queen” from me, he was convinced and said “Ah, it comes from playing cards!”. It was warm weather for March. We walked around the Red Brick Warehouse, Osanbashi and then Yamashita Park with a view of Bay Bridge. At Yamashita Park, there was a large crowd of people who were watching a fire performance. We took a glance at the performance and moved on to a colorful flower garden where they took a lot of photos from various angles. As Lynn wanted to buy a lip stick case to replace the old one which she had bought at China Town in Singapore before, I took her to some shops. And she finally found and got a good one at very reasonable price. I saw them off at China Town, saying “ See you in September” as they planned to come back to Yokohama to enjoy rugby games.*2
*1 The whole three towers are called “Yokohama Three Towers.” It is said that sailors from abroad gave the nickname to them seeing a playing card.
*2The Rugby World Cup will be held in Japan from September 20th to November 2th.
