The couple was 71－year－old and 64－year－old Americans living in the suburbs of Los Angeles. They were the passengers on the cruise ship Diamond Princess. I told them that I used to listen to American music and watch its movies as a teenager, so I became able to speak English naturally. I hit it off well with the husband. They asked me to make the plan of this Yokohama tour. So I decided to take them to Kannnai area (near Daisanbashi pier) for historical sites in Yokohama, Minato Mirai 21 to see a futuristic area, and Sankeien Garden.
In the Kannai district, we visited Yokohama Kaigan Church and Yokohama Archives of History and I explained the history of how Japan opened Yokohama Port to foreigners making an end to national isolation policy. They listened to my explanation attentively.
Next we visited Minato Mirai 21, and we went up to the observatory of Yokohama Landmark Tower. After that, we went to Sankeien Garden. We saw most of the inner garden but we didn’t have enough time to see the outer garden. Their cruise itinerary didn’t allow them opportunities to visit Kyoto or Nara, I said to them “It’s like you have already been to Kyoto because you’ve seen the buildings in Sankeien”. They said “So, indeed, it is.” with delight. After that I took them to their passenger ship at 15:30 at the appointed time.
